Finding Your Artistic Lens: A Cell Phone Photography and Editing Series In-Person
As cell phone cameras improve, we are taking more photos than ever before! In this four part series, Kim Weston, photographer and owner of the Wabi Gallery, will teach participants not only how to take great photos, but how to edit them to make them shine even more! Upon completion of the series, one photograph by each participant will be printed and framed for display at the Ives Main Library! This program is hosted jointly by Ives Squared and Adult Services and is funded thanks to a generous grant from the David T. Langrock Foundation.
Please Note: Registration for the entire series is required.
Session 1: Saturday, April 5, 2025: 2pm-4pm
Cell Phone Photography
Learn about lighting, how to frame the perfect shot, and what the photography settings on your phone mean before heading out to take pictures around downtown New Haven.
Session 2: Saturday, April 12, 2025: 2pm-4pm
Photo Editing Basics
Now that you have taken your photos, learn how to upload your photo to the computer and how to use GIMP (a free photo editing software) to adjust your raw file. By the end of this session, participants should be able to do basic editing independently. For the session on 4/26, participants should have selected the photograph they are submitting to the gallery.
Session 3: Saturday, April 26, 2025: 2pm-4pm
Editing Support
Before this session, please select the photo you will submit to the gallery showing. Use these two hours to ask questions about editing your specific photo and get more individualized help. The final version of your edited photograph must be submitted by Saturday, May 3, 2025. Please include a photo with a minimum resolution of 600dpi, along with your name, and the title of your photograph.
Session 4: Saturday, May 17, 2025: 2pm-4pm
Gallery Opening
Join fellow photographers, family, friends, community members and NHFPL staff for an opening reception for the "Views of New Haven" Gallery Opening, hosted at the Ives Main Library. Light refreshments will be served.
